At Rossall an education is about more than academic results. It is about character – the courage to try, the kindness to support others, and the resilience to keep going when things are hard. We set high expectations because we believe in every child’s capacity to thrive, and we know that real success happens when challenge is matched with care.

Rossall is a community in the truest sense, a place where pupils, staff, and families share in the joys, responsibilities, and celebrations of school life. It is somewhere everyone can belong, where differences are valued, and where friendships endure for a lifetime.

We give our pupils the time and space to explore their passions, whether on the stage, in the laboratory, on the sports field, in the art studio, or beyond. Our aim is simple: to help every young person become the very best version of themselves, ready to step into the world with confidence and purpose.

Rossall is a school with heart, ambition, and an unwavering belief in its young people.

Academic Summary

Rossall offers GCSE, BTEC, IB and A Level options. A Rossall education is designed to ensure our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills, attributes and values that will enable them to positively meet the challenges of an increasingly complex, competitive and dynamic world.

Our curriculum navigates a balance between allowing students the intellectual freedom to explore a broad array of subject areas, such that they can ignite and follow their individual passions and interests, with the traditional recognition of the importance of the mastery of core subjects.

Each academic subject has curated a progressive learning journey that promotes intellectual curiosity, embeds fundamental skills and knowledge and enriches students’ creative and critical capacities. Collectively, these promote an active scholarly community, within and beyond the classroom, that is motivated to enable every student at Rossall to achieve their personal potential

English Language Support

The English as an Additional Language department provides not only support for pupils needing additional English support but also a variety of courses for international pupils to take. The department has achieved British Council accreditation for English Language learning.

Our Pre Sixth Foundation course is specifically designed for those with lower levels of English. During their first year, students will gain exposure to multiple subjects whilst acquiring further English. They will then progress on to either A Level or IB, in most cases after one full academic year. Entry to this course is also available in January and April.

Younger students also have the opportunity to join lower down the school whilst they develop their English before moving onto the more intensive GCSE or Sixth Form courses.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Our activity programme is integrated into the school day, and pupils quickly become adept at managing their time and their commitments. The scope of activities on offer is diverse and includes Medstream, French for Beginners, Squash, and Model United Nations. Outdoor pursuits are also enjoyed through residential adventure camps, the CCF, Duke of Edinburgh, field days and overseas expeditions. Our Weekend Trips is designed to inspire adventure, foster cultural understanding, and create lifelong memories, from urban adventures, to adventurous outings.

Accommodation

Our beautifully appointed boarding houses are at the heart of an extended family made up of students and knowledgeable, caring houseparents and tutors who are attuned to the needs of the young people in their care. Rossall has nine boarding houses (five boys, three girls and one junior house). All Houses have triple, double and single bedrooms, a common room, a large games room, a kitchen for snacks and weekend baking and a library with computer workstations and internet access.

Facilities

Rossall School has developed an impressive array of facilities in recent years, designed to support both academic excellence and a rich co-curricular life. The campus includes nine boarding houses (five for boys, three for girls and one junior house), a distinctive ‘Harry Potter’-style dining room, and purpose-built departments for science, art, design and technology, music and drama. Pupils benefit from outstanding sporting provision, including a state-of-the-art Sports Centre, a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, astroturf pitches, extensive playing fields, fives courts, a climbing wall and a fully equipped fitness suite, alongside specialist facilities such as a Golf Academy. The school also boasts a Chapel, Library, Sixth Form Centre, Food Technology Centre, Performing Arts Studio, an on-site café, and a dedicated English as an Additional Language department. Unique features include an Astronomy Centre with Planetarium and Victorian Observatory, all set within Rossall’s remarkable beachside location.

Boarding Community

We are lucky to have a diverse mix of nationalities within our boarding community, with over 50 different nationalities within the school.

Pastoral Care

Pupil wellbeing is central to their academic and creative growth. Safeguarding and pastoral care is therefore at the heart of all we do. Every pupil at Rossall has a Form Tutor, Head of Year and Houseparent who work collaboratively to oversee each child’s academic, moral and pastoral progress. Working in collaboration with our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL), Director of Wellbeing, Mental Health Nurse and Head of Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), our staff and pupils receive ongoing training and education to identify safeguarding and wellbeing concerns in the immediate and wider school community

Exam Results

Rossal is currently celebrating its best ever year of IB results with a 36 point average (world average = 30 points).

Each year we celebrate the achievements of our Upper Sixth Form leavers. Despite the unique challenges of the last few years and the unprecedented pressure on university places, almost two thirds of those heading to university in the UK are progressing to Top20/Russell Group universities – including Oxford and Cambridge.

Others are taking up 100% sporting scholarships at prestigious universities in the United States, whilst a small number will embark upon degree apprenticeships with the likes of BAE Systems, Mercedes and Deloitte.  We are proud of our students and we know that current and prospective members of the Rossall community share our delight in their success.
